Updated SQL MP has been released

Yesterday Microsoft released the updated version of the SQL MP, version 6.1.314.36.

This MP is really different compared to the previous versions. Why? Just to name a few (RTFM the guide in order to get a complete picture):

  • The MP doesn’t need DMO anymore in order to monitor SQL Server 2008 server;
  • Added support for SQL Server 2008 R2;
  • Removed support for SQL Server 2000;
  • Documented settings for low-privilege environments;
  • Improved database consistency check monitoring (and introduced detailed configuration monitoring for the ‘SQL Database’ object);
  • Reconfigured space monitoring and all levels of storage hierarchy in SQL Server (DB File, DB Log File, DB File Group and Database).

On top of it all has the MP been optimized in order to cut down the noise.

MP to be downloaded from here.

For environments where SQL Server 2000 is still in place and the need to monitor it, the two MP files (Microsoft.SQLServer.2000.Discovery.mp and Microsoft.SQLServer.2000.Monitoring.mp) from the previous version of the SQL MP (6.0.6648.0) can be used.

However, this is at your own risk and responsibility.

Hi Marnix,

i just did 2 (seperate scom envs)updates of the SQL MP from the catalog and it looks like the catalog only updates the 2005 MP files. the 2008 updates are not available in the catalog yet

i had to download and install the MSI in order to get the 2008 MP files.

Hi Alex.

It can take a while before the MP catalog, accessed from the Console, reflects the most recent changes.

Cheers,
