OpsMgr and empty reports – Part 3 – Targeted Reports

This posting will be about Targeted Reports. It is a fast and straightforward way to get filled reports. Even though it is Reporting I am talking about, these reports aren’t run from the Reporting Pane of the OpsMgr Console, but from the Monitoring Pane instead.

One of the major advantages is that Targeted Reports never (when Reporting is configured properly) end up empty. When running a Targeted Report, the selection of the needed Objects is already taken care of. Only the Data Aggregation, Time Frame and whether or not to use Business Hours have to be set and the report can be run.

Steps to get a Targeted Report:

  1. Go to the Monitoring Pane

  2. Select ‘Windows Computers’ (*)

  3. In the top middle pane ‘Windows Computers’ all monitored Windows computers are to be seen:

  4. Select one by highlighting it. In the right pane ‘Actions’ the available actions per selected computer are shown. This pane also contains a header ‘Windows Computer Reports’.

  5. Select a report, double click it and only adjust the Data Aggregation, Time Frame and choose whether or not to use Business Hours.

  6. Hit the Run button and there is your filled report.

*: In this example I have chosen Windows Computers in the Monitoring Pane. However, per MP (as long it contains reports) there are Targeted Reports available. For instance, when the SQL MP is imported, one can also choose Microsoft SQL Server > Databases > Database State. When one selects a database here, the Actions Pane as described in step 4 will show the Reports related to the SQL databases:

Just experiment with it, it is certainly worthwhile the try and the time since the Reports will certainly contain data.

Thankyou Marnix. This is quite helpful for some of the reports.
I still can't get any data for Disks. eg Physical Disk Performance History (Avg Disk Queue lenght) or Performance Reports on Logical Disk (There are TWO of them on the RHS for some reason??) or Performance Reports on Physical Disk.
All return Blanks when choosing the time from the beginning of the month to view, and changing nothing else.
Also, do you know why some of the Reports on the Actions Pane are duplicated?
thx again,
John Bradshaw

Hi John.

Thanks for visiting my blog and your comment. It is a familiar issue you describe here. However, when you follow the instructions as laid down by Cameron Fuller in this blogposting, you will end up with filled reports: http://cameronfuller.spaces.live.com/blog/cns!A231E4EB0417CB76!936.entry?sa=483618058

Just keep on experimenting. When you still have empty reports for for Disks. eg Physical Disk Performance History (Avg Disk Queue lenght) or Performance Reports on Logical Disk, let me know and then I will make a blogposting about it.

Best regards,
